When Chris Stapleton rose to perform “Tennessee Whiskey” at the concert, the audience went wild.

Worlds collided during the Nashville, Tennessee stop of Madea’s Farewell Play Tour when none other than country superstar Chris Stapleton joined Tyler Perry’s most popular and long-running character. And without a doubt, the audience members were in for a treat.

In a fan-filmed video, “Tennessee Whiskey” was already playing when a man wearing a cap with a long beard and microphone in his hand stood up in the middle of the audience. The crowd was unsure what was about to happen, but everyone got the surprise of their lives the moment Stapleton hit the song’s opening notes. Screams and applause then quickly erupted from an attendance of more than 10,000.

Perry, dressed as Madea, the muumuu-wearing matriarch, chimed in from the stage, clapping and singing along. By the end of the performance, the Grammy winner has the whole arena singing along to the hit as well.

Chris Stapleton Definitely Knows How To Surprise A Crowd
It’s uncertain what Chris Stapleton‘s connection has to Tyler Perry and his beloved character Madea or whether the “Whiskey and You” singer was simply at Madea’s Farewell Play Tour as a fan. However, it’s no longer a surprise for the country juggernaut to appear in strange places. Take, for instance, his brief, sneaky cameo as a Wilding warrior in one episode of Game of Thrones.

Well, one thing’s for sure, Perry has definitely appreciated Stapleton’s impromptu performance. He even captured the moment and shared it with his Instagram account followers.

“Madea could not come to the end of the farewell tour and have [Chris Stapleton] in the audience in Nashville, Tennessee and not have him sing a verse of Tennessee Whiskey! And he KILLED IT!!” he wrote in the caption. He ended the post by thanking the country singer.
